At present, the urbanization process is accelerating, which brings more and more land-lost peasants. With the "agricultural to non-agricultural" household registration system being carried out in Chongqing and Liangjiang New District set up, land-lost peasants are typical in Caijiagang Town. After a preliminary investigation on land-lost peasants in this town, the fact was found that many land-lost peasants got into trouble in social roles transition-farmers’role transiting citizens’role. A lot of researches have been conducted on the theory of land-lost peasants in academic circles, but a few researches are on the social role transition of land-lost peasants. If the dilemma of Land-lost farmers’social role transition couldn’t be solved, it will destroy social stability and harmony. At the same time, the dilemma of land-lost farmers’social role transition of Chongqing is besetting or will be faced in other cities of China. The research on the social role transition of Chongqing and the targeted suggestions proposed, are not only for the need of economic development and social stability, but have the important theoretical and practical significance to correctly understand the specific approaches of urbanization as well. Even, they are also a reference of urbanization for other domestic cities.Based on the literature about the social role transition of land-lost peasants in the world and the survey of questionnaire and interview about the land-lost peasants of Caijiagang Town, this research tries to find the cause of the dilemma of land-lost peasants’social role transition. After hackling the literature and investigating the land-lost peasants of Caijiagang Town, two facts were found that role transition includes two dimensions of role’s mind transition and role’s behavior transition, and the other fact is that the land-lost peasants social role transition at Caijiagang Town is closely related to their role’s mind transition and role’s behavior transition. Therefore, the questionnaire of this article contains three parts, basic conditions, role’s mind transition and role’s behavior transition. Through the descriptive statistics analysis and correlation analysis about the variables, as well as the Pearson correlation coefficient tests about some variables, this article study the dilemma of land-lost peasants social role transition and the cause of this dilemma, and gives the corresponding coping strategies. The main results are as follows:1. Land-lost peasants The inherent role’s mind of land-lost peasants restricts the social role transition. For a long time, the traditional farming culture and lifestyle make farmers have ingrained role’s mind, which restricts their role transition from farmer to citizen. To find the influence of ingrained mind on role transition, the article researches some altitudes of land-lost peasants:the cognition of their own identity after losing their land, the willing of losing land, the satisfaction on the compensation fees for land and the resettlement house and the social security system, exploring the dilemma of land-lost peasants social role transition and the affecting factors.2. The role behavior of land-lost peasants reflects the situation of land-lost peasants’social role transition. The role behavior of land-lost peasants including the situations of family consumption, leisure time using and relationship with others, which can reflect the degree of acceptance to citizens’role and the degree of adaptation to the citizens’role. Therefore, the land-lost peasants’role behavior is a double-edge sword for their social role transition. The role behavior of integrating into city or community can promote the transition of their social role, but traditional role behavior will have a restrictive influence. In addition, whether employment or not and the nature of occupation will affect land-lost peasants’social role transition. The occupation is an important activity of land-lost peasants and is an important part of their role behavior. In addition to the necessary physiological time, most of the time people spend is in the workplace, contacting with colleagues at work, so work changing has an important impact on the social role transition of land-lost peasants.3. The innovation of this paper is that it contain different theories of lots of discipline, applying the research methods of quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis. On one hand, this paper enriches the theoretical research about social role transition of land-lost peasants.
