This paper selected the high school language elective materials printed by the People’s Education Press as the object of study, focusing on researching the compiling of teaching materials and the use of the situation,and finding the problems among them. The compilation of high school language elective materials printed by the PEP are based on the "new curriculum standard"about the five seriesof the Chinese optional courses,and they have the following characteristics:at first,they are the unity of humanity and tool,and give consideration to cultural function and utility function; secondly, the articlea of materials are"quality and beauty", with the times, typical sex, classic; thirdly,content of the materials is rich and colorful,and providing a variety of choices for the teachers and students; fourthly,they closely contact with the compulsory teaching materials,as the extension and expansion of the compulsory courses; fifthly,the arrangment style of materials is novel,and they mostly use the "theme" to organize the curriculum;finally,the materials pay attention to the cultivation of students’ self-study ability of inquiry teaching,and the help-reading system is complete. In summary, the high school language elective materials printed by the People’s Education Press can reflect the requirements of the new curriculum reform,and keep pace with the times,then have certain applicability.But the high school language elective materials printed by PEP still exist many problems, from the aspect of the compilation of teaching materials, they mainly have the following problems:at first, in the curriculum system, the teaching elective materials have more subjects,but less class period, so it is unable to guarantee the completion of the teaching task with high quality.The second, in the type of elective materials, the high school language elective materials printed by the People’s Education Press select and use the comprehensive type, hence they contain plenty of the contents,and involve wide range, it also brings certain difficulty to taeching, and when they set the theme of the unit, they lack certain relation between the themes; The third, in the teaching of writing style, the compiling team of the elective materials are experts in Colleges and universities. Not only there is no essential difference with the compulsory teaching materials, but some content are repeated. In addition, the preparation of the elective materials emphasizes the humanity. From the use of the elective materials, it also has some problems:at first, the use of the the elective materials is inefficient, the People’s Education Press prints16kinds Of the elective materials, but students only learn a few of the materials. And students need to learn a lot of content, they bear great study pressure. Secondly, teachers merely use single teaching method, and most schools are still using the traditional class teaching system for conducting unified teaching, as a result that we cannot train the ability of students’independent analysis. The third, the scope of application of the elective materials is inclined to the town, and the content is not consistent with the actual needs of the rural teaching, so It is no good teaching effect in rural areas.Finally, Influenced by the evaluation system of the college entrance examination, the theory of teaching the elective course that develops students’individuality does not carry out it. In view of the above problems,the thesis puts forward the corresponding suggestions in this paper.With regard to writing:the one is optimizing the staff of compiling the teaching materials, and the composition of the writing team needs to achieve the combination that including university scholars and experts and senior middle school teachers to make the elective materials more pertinent and applicable; The second is to optimize the curriculum, and arrange the class reasonably, besides we need reduce the kinds of the teaching materials,and improve the teaching content. The third is combining with the school resources to develop the individual school-based teaching materials. In use: we must ensure the right of teachers and students to choose teaching materials to make the elective materials live up to its name.And Chinese teachers should strengthen their professional accomplishment.What is more,we must reform the system of evaluation,and explore the more comprehensive evaluation system.
