Based on fieldwork research conducted in Mongol-Khuree in Khasag Autonomous Zhou of Yili, Xinjiang, the thesis focused on the manuscripts written in Tod Mongolian scripts, which is called as ’Burkhan’by local Ooled Mongols, and studied rituals closely related with worshiping the manuscripts, and made effort to analyze locals’ identity implied in those religious rituals.The thesis consists of five parts including introduction, three chapters, conclusion, bibliography and appendix. In the introduction, the author explains the importance of chosen subject, methodologies and previous studies. The first chapter mainly introduces the history and current circumstances of Ooled Mongols, and the second chapter describes the rituals related with manuscripts, and discussed the importance and cultural meaning of manuscripts to locals. The third chapter compared the religious activities of Kazaks and Ooled Mongols in Mongol-Khuree, and argued the function of the rituals related with manuscripts in making and strengthening ethnic identity. The author comes out with her own viewpoints after reviewing all those points in conclusion parts. Author also attached interview materials and photos from fieldwork research as appendix.
