During our country’s new curriculum reform, many versions of senior Chinese electivetextbooks appeared. They are different from each other, represented by the textbook ofPeople’s education Press and of Jiangsu education Press. There are many illustrations of highquality in these textbooks. This paper compares the two versions in order to understand anduse the textbooks better.This thesis includes the following parts:The introduction is conclusion of overviewing and current research situation ofillustrations in text, then gives out the significance of this topic.In the middle two parts, statistics and comparison of illustrations in five series textbooksof People’s education Press and of Jiangsu education Press are carried out respectivelyincluding total and classified statistics. Classified statistics is delivered by five dimensions,there are persons, matter, scene, story and sketch according to the content of illustrations.Three positions of before, in and after text are classified. The way of organizing illustrationsincludes independent, divergent, sequence and multilayer. The functions of illustration areclassified into decorative, representational, organizational and explanative.In the3rdpart, the differences and unifications are analyzed with the help of illustrationtheory originated from Richard E.Mayer, multi-intelligence theory, constructivism theory,respectively. Why are these theories selected? First of all, illustration theory is important andvaluable section in Mayer’s theory, which is directly related with the topic of this thesis. Themulti-intelligence theory and constructivism theory are the basis of new curriculumreformation and textbook compilation. Accordingly, three theories above are helpful tounderstand the illustrations and textbook.In the conclusion, suggestions of application and edition about illustrations in text areraised. The two versions should learn from each other, the users can take advantages of theillustrations creatively.
