The localization of social work is an essential step that must be taken before Chinese social work matures. The localization of social work in China has experienced two inconsecutive stages, namely the period of Republic of China and the period from the reinstatement of education of social work in university to now. The continuity of discipline development requires that the localization and development of the present social work should be based on the previous research findings and intellectual wealth. The author considers the localization is actually that Chinese scholars and social workers do research and pragmatic exploration under the guidance of the advanced western ideas and theories, and work out the knowledge system based on the local culture, which should have local peculiarities, can meet the nation’s needs and accords with the professional spirits. Western social work was developed from the practices of helping while Chinese social work was introduced from the west and developed with the social work education as the beginning. Therefore, social work education plays an important role in the progress of localization. It is not only the beginning of social work’s introduction to China but also of the localization of social work. in China.Through more than ten years’ development, social work education during the period of Republic of China had accumulated a great deal of experience and made great contribution to naturalization. In the period of Republic of China, the scholars who made great achievements in social work education research and pragmatic fields included JiangZhi’ang, XuShilian, YanXinzhe, etc, of whom, JiangZhi’ang explored widely in such fields as social work education, practice, theory research and system research, etc. Combining the theory knowledge of western social work and his own experience in national social work education, practice and research, he clarified his own interpretation of the system of localized social work systematically. His viewpoints on the naturalization of social work were foresighted and provided a scientific and unique insight into social work and contributed a lot to social work education as well. Besides, they could direct the localization and development of social work education. There appeared a gap in the social work education in China for politic and social reasons. Therefore, present social work education is a brand new pattern of exploration and development tacking place against a new background. To develop the present social work education, it is not altogether unjustifiable to keep pace with the times but it’s wrong to neglect the previous experience. Based on JiangZhi’ang’s research into the viewpoints of social work education and the achievements made during the period of Republic of China, the thesis analyzes the significance and feasibility of connecting the localization of social work education at present and that of the Republic of China, taking account of the current development status of social work education in China and adopting the theories of social modernization and cultural integration. In addition, the author puts forward his own viewpoints on how to promote the cross-time connection. Such is the main study content of the thesis.
