Revisited Function Of Religion

As a social cultural phenomenon of great significance in the history of humanbeing, religion has exerted influences, which cannot be ignored, on the socialactivities. The study of religion’s social functions can be traced back a long time ago,and the research achievements are plentiful and substantial. The thesis is conductedwith qualitative investigation, with the Tunpu villages in Anshun, Guizhou as thesubject. Through the investigation into the historical cultural background, the currentsituation, the form and content of the religious activities, combining the functiontheory of sociology of religion, the paper tries to find out if religion affects Tunpuvillages’ culture, community convergence, and stability.The thesis consists of four parts:Part one: the introduction. It introduces the problem which the thesis deals with.Then, relevant theories are summarized, and relevant concepts are made clear. Finally,research methods are introduced.Part two: the description of investigation subject, which describes the historicalreasons why Tunpu villages are formed, the main characteristics of Tunpu culture, thecommunity structure and family structure.Part three: the analysis. Base on the introduction of Tunpu’s religious beliefs andthe main religious activities, combining the relevant theory, this part analyzes therelationship of religion within the Tunpu villages through its interactions with Tunpusociety, family, and individual.The last part is the conclusion.
