With the progress of the electronic technology and the rapid development of signalprocessing technology, ultrasonic sensors, electronic automation technology, the advantage ofthe ultrasonic ranging technology is more and more prominent like strong directivity, energyconcentration, not easily by the external environment factors interference, simple principle,easy operation and so on.So the ultrasonic ranging technology in modern life got more andmore applications. In medical imaging, industrial nondestructive testing, automobileanti-collision, robot automatic obstacle avoidance, electronic eyes for the blind, ultrasonictechnology has played a more and more important role.PSoC is a single-chip programmable system which produced by Cypress Company, anAmerican famous semiconductor manufacturers.The PSoC chip rates a microcontroller andthe analog and digital subsystem of embedded systems. A PSoC chip has a microcontrollerand more than100kinds of peripheral functions.It has the advantages of improved designefficiency, saving PCB hardware resources, reduce material costs, reduce power consumption.This paper designed an ultrasonic phased array ranging system.The PSoC5chip,produced by the Cypress Company, is used as the main controller. Each part of its functionmodules are described in detail. Compared to the previous ultrasound phased array rangingsystem, this system has the advantages of simple system circuit design, saving developmentcost, high precision, fast operation, etc.Firstly this paper introduces the development and application of ultrasonic technologystatus at present stage. Now, commonly used non-contact ranging technology has CCD range,electromagnetic distance measurement, laser ranging, and ultrasonic ranging. Comparing withthe other non-contact ranging technology, we can find that the ultrasonic ranging has manyadvantages. The system design ideas and research focusing of this paper are based on theadvantages.Next, this paper introduces the basic principle of ultrasonic phased array rangingtechnology and related knowledge. By controlling of the ultrasonic transducer launch time inUltrasonic phased array, realize the ultrasonic focusing at a specific point in space. Bycomputing the time of the reflected ultrasonic wave, calculate the distance. Focus has important effect on the precision of ultrasonic distance measurement, the control of delay timewill be a key in the ultrasonic phased array system design.The third part chapter make a brief introduction of PSoC,made by American famoussemiconductor manufacturers Cypress Company. It introduces the function module on thePSoC chip, design advantages and design process. Compared to the other embedded chip,PSoC chip has the advantages of improved efficiency, cost savings, hardware acceleration andso on. PSoC chip design mainly includes the hardware design and software design processes.Finally, this part introduces the choice of chips used in this article.The fourth chapter mainly introduces the system composition and the realization of eachfunction module in the system. Phased array ultrasonic ranging system mainly includesseveral parts, like ultrasonic transducer, PSoC5master control unit, transmission circuit,temperature measurement circuit. PSoC5chip mainly realizes PWM module to producesquare wave drive signal, the echo signal amplifying, filtering, etc.The fifth chapter mainly introduces the software design process of this system. Thesoftware includes system program and the other programs, such as temperature measurement,calculation of delay time.The sixth chapter introduces test results and conclusions of the ultrasonic phased arrayranging system in this design.Finally, this paper made a summary and outlook to continue research direction for thefuture.
