Kunming belongs to one of the most lack of water resources of14cities in China.,and it’s social and economic development is constrained by water resources. Sonhuaba dam is the main water source of the Kunming’s urban water supply and the amount of it’s water supply accounted for more than half of the total urban water supply. Sonhuaba dam’s water storage and water quality are impact on the safety of the city’s water supply directly.How to guarantee the sustainable use of water resources effectively, how to prevent the exhaustion of water sources,and how to extend the life cycle of the water source have became important issues which should be solved currently.These issues also have great practical significance on the stability and development of the Kunming.This paper is belongs to the Ministry of Water Resources’ welfare programs (201101042) which is research on the plateau basin water sources protection and recovery technology. The research is mainly against the situation of the sharp drop in the amount of water in the highland city, and considered the impact to rainfall interception.runoff and water conservation capacity by land cover, vegetation coverage and vegetation types. By using LANDSAT TM remote sensing image in water source and remote sensing image’s processing method envi.this study explain TM image and got changing condition of land cover and vegetation coverage of water source for years. Combing the local hydrological material,this study analyze the data deeply and get corresponding conclusion.The main contents are as follows:1.Through remote sensing monitoring on land cover change and vegetation cover age of Songhuaba watershed, get the Songhuaba watershed land cover and vegetation coverage changes for many years and a variety of land cover types into each other’s sit uation.2.Based on the different vegetation types of Songhuaba basin rainfall interceptio n and runoff characteristics, obtained the law of the land cover and vegetation coverag e change on rainfall-runoff relationsh 3.Through the study of the actual water storage capacity of different vegetation types of rainfall in Songhuaba come to the law of the land cover and vegetation cove rage change on the water storage of the water source.
