Anecdotes about Spirits and Immortals is a collection of myths, legends andstories of monsters and incredible and uncanny happenings. The stories most drewmaterials from the common people in that peoriod, therefore the wirtten style wasclose to the normal life. It provied am important perspective to observe and reaserchthe characteristics of language in the Wei Jin Southern and Northern Dynasties.Through comparing the chinese edition of Anecdotes about Spirits andImmortals written by Gan Bao with the English translation edition written by DingWangdao, accoding to the skopostheorie, this thesis chose the adverb system as thestudy target and concluded the translation skills as well as rectified the errors, thusprovided translation reference of the adverb in the middle ancient times.Consulting the criteria of He Yueshi and their practical meaning and function,This paper collected237adverbs in total and and divided them into five categories,which are Time adverb、Range adverb、Adverb of state、Adeverb of the degree、Adverb of frequency. Referring the translation of Ding Wangdao, this thesis analyzedthe translation methods of every adverb and depict them in detail, then gave acomprehesive evaluation of the English translation edition written by Ding Wangdao.
