Objective To explore the prevalence rate and influence factors of depression andanxiety among inpatients with lumbar disc herniation. Methods All the91patients were investigated immediately about the depression andanxiety symptoms with Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS) and Self-Rating AnxietyScale (SAS) after admission, the general situation and the degree of pain anddysfunction were investigated using self-made questionnaire, visual analogue scale(VAS) and Oswestry disability index questionnaire (ODI), and the multi-factor logisticregression analysis method was used to analyze its influencing factors. Results In total of91cases of patients with lumbar disc prolapse were investigatedeffectively, including56men (61.5%),35women (38.5%), the average age was (50.68±15.240); The number of patient who less than40years old was20(22.0%), between40to64was56(61.5%), greater than64was15(16.5%); Among professionaldistribution,22farmer (24.2%),15workers (16.5%), the medical workers, civil servants, teachers, and service were merged together for analysis because of the four industrieshave a common characteristic that relatively low proportion of physical labor and thenumber of people was too little, a total of19people (20.8%),11retirement (12.1%),other professions was24(26.4%); Degree of culture, primary school and below was29(31.9%), junior high school was27(29.7%), high school or technical secondary schoolwas23(25.3%), college degree or above was12(13.1%); Course of disease of less than1year was47(51.6%),1year and more than one year was44(48.4%). The prevalencerate of depression was46.2%, and the standard score of SDS was (46.93±10.320), higher than the Chinese norm (41.88±10.57)(t=4.4168, P=4.4168); the patients whowas Female, aged40-64, the higher degree of pain, and accompanied by anxiety, had ahigher prevalence rate of depression (P <0.05). The prevalence rate of anxiety was44.0%, the standard score of SAS was (47.65±8.372), higher than the Chinese norm(37.23±12.59)(t=7.7599, P=7.7599). The patients who had a course of disease morethan one year, and with the anxiety, had a higher prevalence rate of depression (P <0.05).Conclusion The prevalence rate of depression and anxiety in patients with lumbar discherniation maintain a high level, and are higher than the general population; gender, ageand degree of pain were associated with depression, the course of the disease wasrelated to the anxiety, and depression and anxiety can follow each other. The medicalpersonnel should be targeted to give care guidance to improve the quality of life ofpatients with lumbar disc herniation effectively and promote the medical improvement.
