Objective1To evaluate the reliability and validity of the Chinese-version Successful Aging Inventory (C-SAI)2To describe the present condition and influencing factors of successful aging and quality of life in the aged, as well as relationship of them, in order to provide theoretical basis on health promotion strategy.MethodsAfter translation, back translation and cultural adaptation of SAI according to the Brislin translation model, we formed the Chinese version of SAI.181old adults were recruited by convenient sampling method from community service center of a grade-A tertiary hospital in Jinan during September to November2013. Participants completed general information questionnaire, the Chinese-version Successful Aging Inventory (C-SAI), Medical Outcomes Study Short-Form36(SF-36).The data were input by excel2007and analyzed by SPSS17.0.Results1The content validity index for the scale(S-CVI/Ave) was0.975. Five factors were extracted by principal components analysis which contributed58.035%of the variance. The Cronbach’s a coefficient and Guttman split-half coefficient was respectively0.832and0.871for the total scale.2The mean score of C-SAI was (55.04±10.21). By the single-factor analysis, we found that sex, age, education, marital status, monthly income of per family, smoking, exercising regularly, self-report health can affect successful aging status. Multiple regression analysis showed that exercising regularly, education level, smoking, self-report health, sex were predictive factors of SAI (R2=29.2%, F=11.978,P=0.000).3The mean score of SF-36was (70.15±15.35). By the univariate analysis, we found there were statistical differences of SAI in different characteristics such as sex, education level, marital status, monthly income of per family, smoking, drinking, exercising, chronic diseases condition and self-report health(P<0.05). Multiple regression analysis showed that successful aging status, self-report health, sleep condition, exercising regularly and age were predictive factors of quality of life (R2=38.7%, F=15.633, P=0.000).4The score of successful aging was positively related with the total score and eight dimension scores of quality of life, the correlation coefficient was respectively0.4000,0.245,0.234,0.211,0.374,0.343,0.277,0.280,0.329(P<0.01).Conclusion1The C-SAI has good psychometric properties and can be used for measuring successful aging condition and tracking the effectiveness of health promotion strategies.2The successful aging and quality of life in our study were both at a moderate level, and should be promoted. There were many factors influencing old adults’ successful aging and quality of life such as sex, age, education level, marital status, monthly income of per family, healthy living habits, self-report health. Successful aging was not only positively related with but also the primary influencing factor of quality of life.3The old adults’ successful aging status and quality of life were influenced by various factors, so we suggested that health education and intervention should be taken for old adults in poor condition according to the influencing factors, in order to promote the successful aging condition and improve the quality of life.
