Objective:To explore the technique of arthroscopy plus radiotherapy in the treatment of diffusedpigmented villonodular synovitis of the knee and to analysis its clinical outcomes. Methods:A total of13cases of diffused pigmented villonodular synovitis of the knee which havebeen diagnosed by MRI、arthroscopy、pathological examination were treated from June2009to December2013. There were6males and7females, aged22-52years (mean,36.46years).All patients underwent arthroscopic synovectomy and postoperative radiotherapy. TheLysholm score system and the International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC)2000score system were used to evaluate the clinical outcome for all the patients. The Lysholmscore and the International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC)2000score of thediseased knee joints were measured at pre-operation and at the end of follow up.Results:All the patients were followed up for6–48months,(mean,20.53months). The preoperative Lysholm score was50.23±6.55, International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC)2000score was51.54±6.27. The Lysholm score was87.69±3.67, and IKDC2000score was89.15±3.83at last follow‐up, showing significant differences when compared with preoperative scores.During the follow‐up,there is no local recurrence.two patients had slight edema, after treatment the edema remission.3patients got skin pigmentation. Conclusions:Arthroscopic synovectomy with a combined application of postoperative radiotherapyis an effective treatment for diffuse pigmented vilionodular synovitis of the knee, improvethe function of the knee joint and prevent local recurrence.
