In recent years, the HIV and syphilis epidemic situations become more seriousthan before. The increasing number of construction workers and the expandingfloating population of workers accelerate the spread and prevalence of AIDS andsyphilis. Most of them are adolescents and middle age adults who are sexually active,and their common characteristics include poor social support, weakness of protecting,floating continually and being difficult to administrate. Combining these factors, it islikely to place these construction workers at a high risk of acquiring HIV and Syphilis.They should be treated as important objects of AIDS and syphilis prevention andintervention.Objectives:The goal is to investigate the infectious status of HIV and syphilis amongconstruction workers in Kuancheng district,and then to analysis on knowledge,attitudeand practice and to grasp the acquirement of AIDS health education, at last, topropose comprehensive interventions for construction workers and prevent the spreadof HIV and syphilis.Methods:In this study, we selected400construction workers each year from2010to2013among floating population in Kuancheng district at AIDS sentinel surveillance sitesby quota sampling method. Blood samples were collected for the test of HIV andsyphilis antibodies. Questionnaire survey was conducted by face-to-face interviews.Survey results were input into National AIDS Sentinel Surveillance Data ManagementSystem and analyzed wtih SPSS13.0statistic software. Measurement data was presented as M±Q, and numeration data was presented as rate and proportion.Chisquare test was applied for the comparison between different groups. Logisticregression model was used to analyze the related factors of behavior characteristicsand the awareness of AIDS.Results:1. In this study, the average age of construction workers in Kuancheng districtwas38.00y±11.00. The proportion of educational level below junior high school was91.8%. Construction workers showed a high mobility that only15.6%of them hadlived in Kuancheng district for more than6months.2. HIV-antibody was not detected in builders during2010to2013. There was nosyphilis positive construction worker in2010. One case of syphilis infection wasdeteted, which represented the infection rate as0.25%in2011and2012sperately.Four cases of syphilis infection were detected in2013, of which the infection rate was1.00%. The average infection rate of syphilis was0.38%during the four years.3. As a whole, the awareness rate of AIDS knowledge among constructionworkers was81.25%from2010to2012, which was different among these years, andit was not statistically significant(P>0.05). Multivariate Logistic regression modelanalysis indicated that the shorter time of local residence and the higher educationlevel, the higher awareness rate of AIDS knowledge.4.There was no drug-user among the construction workers in Kuancheng districtduring2010to2013. In sex with a spouse or a cohabitant, the proportion of condomuse in the last time was25.6%. In the last year, the proportion of condom use forevery time was2.2%and the rate in some time was76.2%. While, the proportion ofwhom never used condom was21.6%.The proportion of the construction workers who ever had sex with temporarycompanions in the last year was3.6%. The rate of whom used condom in the last sexwith temporary companion was74.1%. The rate of consistent condom use withtemporary companions in the last year was53.4%. The rate of no consistent condomuse with temporary sexual partners in the last year was46.6%. During2010to2012,the proportion of the construction workers who ever hadcommercial sex was5.3%. The rate of condom use in the last sex with sex workerswas86.9%.The rate of consistent condom use with sex workers in the last year was63.1%. The rate of no consistent condom use with sex workers in the last year was36.9%.5. The rates of condom use at last sex or in the last year with a spouse orcohabitant and consistent condom use with sex workers in the last year among theconstruction workers aged30years and younger were higher than those of other agegroups. The proportion of the below30age construction workers who ever had sexwith temporary sexual partners in the last year was higher than that of who were older.The proportion of the construction workers who ever had commercial sex or withtemporary companions among the unmarried construction workers was higher thanthat of who were married or cohabiting. The rate of condom use at last sex with aspouse or cohabitant among minority construction workers was higher than Han. Therate of condom use with a spouse or cohabitant in the last year and at last sex or in thelast year with sex workers among construction workers who had only attended juniorhigh school or lower education were lesser than that of whose education level washigher.Conclusions:1.Most of the married construction workers in Kuancheng district were young,whose educational levels were low, and highly mobile.2. HIV-antibody was undetectble in all of the construction workers in Kuanchengdistrict from2010to2013. The average infection rate of syphilis was0.38%duringthe four years. The syphilis infectious status of the construction workers inKuancheng district was at a low prevalent level.3. The general awareness rate of AIDS knowledge of the construction workerswas relatively high. However, Their knowledge to AIDS was below nationalrequirements, so we should increase the intensity of publicising AIDS knowledge.The shorter time of local residence living and the higher education level, the higherawareness rate of AIDS knowledge. 4. The proportion of the construction workers who ever had commercial sex orhad sex with temporary companions in Kuancheng district was lower than that ofother regions. The rate of condom use of the construction workers in Kuanchengdistrict was higher than that of other regions.There were no drug-users among theconstruction workers in Kuancheng district.
