With the development of medical imaging informatics, the way that radiologists review images had transformed from reviewing films(hard-copy reading) to reviewing digitalized(soft-copy reading) images. Radiologists can adjust images appearance and get more details from images in soft-copy reading, that can’t be achieved in hard-copy reading. As a feature of medical image review system, Hanging Protocol can be used to arrange images and set screen layout or execute other common image manipulation operations automatically. It can reduce radiologist’s workload and improve work efficiency. There are many differences for soft-copy reading between mammography images and other modality type images. The requirement of mammography review workstation is different from general purpose review workstation on displaying image and hanging function. The main purpose of this thesis is to discuss the function of a mammography review system, analyze the requirements of soft-copy reading for reviewing mammography images, design and implement this system with domain knowledge.First, we introduced relevant concepts about reviewing digital mammography images. And then we introduced parts of DICOM standard and IHE information, that is related to reviewing digital mammography images. Based on this information, we give the requirements of displaying images and hanging function for mammography soft-copy reading. Last, we design and implement a soft-copy image reading system based on a general purposed review software platform, which is optimized for reviewing mammography images.
