Objectives: The aim of the current study was to evaluate whether a gender differe-nce exists in short-term response to cardiac resynchronization therapy(CRT)byretrospective analysis. Methods: one hundred and fifty four patients(thirty-one female and one hundredand twenty three male)who suffer from chronic heart failure and underwent CRT (orCRT-D)were inclouded in the study. The following selection criteria for CRT wereapplied: moderate-to-severe heart failure(New York Heart Association, NYHA, classIII–IV), Left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF)<40%, QRS duration>120ms, leftventricular end-diastolic dimension (LVEDD)>55mm, heart failure still break outrepeatedly after giving to optimize drug therapy. All the patient was divided into twogroups according sex and keep anti-heart failure treatment simultaneousl.Evaluationwere performed at baseline, after three month and six month. The project of the followup observation including NYHA Functional Class, six minutes walking distance(6-MWT),LVEF changes, LVEDD changes and all-cause mortality. Results:No statistical differences in baseline characteristics and heart failureindicators were observed before surgery except age(women older than man),6-MWT(man greater than women)and QRS duration(women longer than man). three monthsand six months After implantation, all the above indicators were significantly improved. The magnitude of improvement in different parameters was similar between women andmen, such as, NYHA Functional Class(three month:2.31±0.64比2.30±0.60; six month:2.20±0.74比2.07±0.64), LVEF changes(three month:38.04±8.17比40.26±6.72; sixmonth:39.69±9.44比41.43±8.37), LVEDD changes (three month:67.12±8.11比64.07±7.74; six month:66.37±8.60比63.73±8.88)and all-cause mortality(p=0.789).Only the6-MWT outcomes show that male have an advantage over fmale(threemonths:388.296±119.319compare to323.677±118.181; six months:405.929±133.644 compare to334.733±76.579; p <0.05).Conclusions:The retrospective study shows, CRT or CRT-D could improvecardiac function, exercise tolerance and the life quality of patients with moderate orsevere heart failure. No significant gender differences were observed on the short-termcurative effect after received CRT.
