Objective: To investigate the value of serum soluble triggering receptor expressed onmyeloid cells-1(sTREM-1) and procalcitonin (PCT) in the early diagnosis of bacteriainfectious cause of acute exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(AECOPD)and judgment on the severity of AECOPD.Methods:Sera from40patients of AECOPD and40healthy individuals were respectivelyanalyzed for sTREM-1and PCT and CRP using ELISA(enzyme-linked immunosorbentassay).Serum sTREM-1and PCT and CRP were detected in peripheral venous blood onadmission day and the15th day.Comparison was then made within the groups. Results:The concentration of serum sTREM-1and PCT and CRP respectively within theadmission day and15th day in serum were higher than those in controls with statisticssignificance. The concentration of sTREM-1in serum in the admission day was differentfrom this15th day, but there was no statistics significance. The concentration of serum PCTand CRP in serum of the admission day were higher than those15th day with statisticssignificance. There was a significantly positive correlation between the concentration ofserum sTREM-1and PCT and severity of COPD,but there was no significant correlationbetween the concentration of CRP and severity of COPD.Serum sTREM-1and PCT and CRPconcentrations of COPD patients had no significant correlation. Conclusions:PCT in serum is a good marker in the early diagnosis of bacteria infectiouscause of AECOPD. Serum sTREM-1can be a inflammatory indicators for diagnosis of bacteria infectious cause of AECOPD is unclear. There might have some relevance betweenthe concentration of sTREM-1and PCT in serum and the severity of lung function inpatients with COPD.
