Objectives:The purpose of this study was to observe the therapeutic effect and adverse reactions of the treatment of methylprednisolone pulse therapy on radioactive cerebral edema compared with traditional method of dexamethasone treatment. Thereby a reasonable and effective clinical treatment plan regarding to radioactive brain edema could be concluded.Methods:Forty-six hospitalized patients definitely diagnosed radioactive cerebral edema were randomly divided into two groups:group A (twenty-six patients received methylprednisolone pulse therapy)and group B (twenty patients received conventional dexamethasone therapy). The following differences were analysed and compared between two groups before and after treatment, including remission time of symptoms such as headache, nausea and vomiting after treatment, variations in neurological deficit score before and after treatment, variations of active ability of daily life before and after treatment, variations of clinical symptom and sign assessed by the LENT/SOMA scoring system, the incidence of adverse reactions. Results:Radioactive cerebral edema mostly occur on6months after gamma knife treatment. Arteriovenous malformation and cavernous hemangioma tend to result in radioactive brain edema. According to clinical assessment results,it was no significant difference between two groups in total effective rate(P>0.05). However,The significant efficiency of group A was better than those of group B.According to LENT/SOMA grading scale evaluating headache symptoms, the significant efficiency of group A was higher than those of group B(P<0.05).There was no significant difference between two groups in neurological deficit, cognitive function and adverse reactions(P>0.05).Conclusion:Methylprednisolone pulse therapy and conventional dexamethasone therapy are are both effective treatments on radioactive cerebral edema. Furthermore methylprednisolone pulse therapy relief the symptoms of intracranial hypertension (such as headache) more faster and more obviously.
