Objective:Metabolic syndrome (MS) is a cluster of metabolic risk factors that increases the risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes mellitus (DM), including low HDLC, high TG, high blood pressure and increased fasting plasma glucose. Waist circumference(WC) and BMI(body mass index) are important indicators to measure obesity. Android fat mass and Gynoid fat mass can measure fat distribution. This study aimed at discussing the changes in obesity indicators due to accumulation of metabolic risk factors. Methods:There was a cross-sectional study conducted from2008to2010. The study involved817subjects,488females and329males aged from18-79years old. BMI, waist circumference, triglycerides, high density lipoprotein cholesterol, fasting plasma glucose, and blood pressure were measured. ANOVA and ANCOVA were used to compare the means of obesity indicators in different accumulation of metabolic risk factors. Results:Waist circumference, BMI and android fat mass appeared diversities in normal and abnormal blood pressure, fasting plasma glucose, HDLC and TG, and increased with the accumulation of metabolic risk factors. But the increasing of BMI became insignificant after adjusting age and android fat mass. Gynoid fat mass decreased significantly with the accumulation of metabolic risk factors in females, and the significance disappeared in males after adjusting age and android fat mass. Conclusion:Waist circumference, BMI and android fat mass were all related to each metabolic risk factor or accumulation of metabolic risk factors. Abdominal obesity is the main reason to relate with the metabolic risk factor accumulation. Gynoid fat mass is a protective fat for metabolic risks in females.
