Hawthorn is a kind of deciduous shrub or dunqarunqa of Rosaceae, and it is a family plant widely cultivated in China, which combines food value and medical value together Hawthorn contains a lot of active components such as flavonoids, bear fruit acid, saponins, sugar, organic acid, pigment and so on. These compounds are paid close attention increasingly in cardiovascular treatment, health care and antioxidant aspects.Drosophila melanogaster is one of widely used anti-aging experimental models which can be used to study the influence and effect of aging on gene. It has been demonstrated that the fly’s gene of aging was similar to human’s extremely.At present, fruit flies has been used in anti-aging experiments extensively while it was rarely reportd in anti-aging expersiment of hawthorn. This paper studied hawthorn alcohol extraction’s function of anti-aging and explored its body oxidation resistance with the material of hawthorn alcohol extraction and model of Drosophila melanogaster. In order to study the hawthorn’s body anti-oxidation and anti-aging furtherly and provides theory basis for anti-aging research and development of hawthorn.Firstly, major active components had been quantitated. The flavonoids content was58.60%, detectived by UV-spectrophotometry using rutin as comparison sample. To quantify procyanidin B2, epicatechin and hyperin present in hawthorn extract, a HPLC method was developed. The result showed that the contents of these three compounds were12.77%,7.34%and3.31%, respectively.Secondly, body oxidation resistance had been researched. Established a model of normal flies and fed the flies with different dosages of hawthorn alcohol extract. The flies fed on hawthorn alcohol extract are much more macrobian compared with the blank ones. Total SOD, CuZn-SOD and CAT enzyme activities were improved significantly (P<0.01),at the same time the content of MDA reduced with dose enhancement in a certain range, while the effect reduced beyond the range. The otherness is significantly between groupes.Established a model of hyperlipidemia flies and fed the flies with different dosages of hawthorn alcohol extract. The flies fed on hawthorn alcohol extract are much more macrobian compared with the blank ones. And then oxidized the flies’hydroxyl radical and superoxide radical anion with H2O2and Paraquat. The result was that the life span of high-dosage groups was longer than low-dosage.The results of experiments showed that hawthorn alchol extract possess strong body antioxidant activity. It can be developed as antioxidant functional food in futher.
