ObjectivesTo investigate current situation of the psychosocial adaptation and themindfulness level of the patients with breast cancer during the period ofchemotherapy, and to explore the effects of the mindfulness intervention model on thepsychosocial adaptation, mindfulness level and adverse reaction of the patients withbreast cancer during the period of chemotherapy, and to provide the basis forenhancing adaptation of the patients.MethodsThis research was a quasi-experimental study.Eighty patients with breast cancer, who were from a third A grade hospital of Hengyang city of Hunan province, wererandomly divided into the control group (n=40) and the intervention group(n=40),during the period of chemotherapy. Every patient was given the routingnursing of chemotherapy. Meanwhile, the patients of the intervention group weregiven the mindfulness model intervention for two months. Before and after theinterventions, the patients were asked to answer the Psychosocial AdaptationQuestionnaire, MAAS and the adverse reaction of chemotherapy questionnaire.Effects of the mindfulness intervention model on the patients were analyzed byvaluating the scores of the data from the patients. The SPSS17.0was used to analyzethe data, the statistics methods included description, T test, χ2test, Wilcoxon RankSum test and ANOVA of Repeated Measure.Results1. There were75patients with breast cancer who finished the experiment. There were37patients in the intervention group and38patients in the control group. Before the intervention, the mean score of the psychosocial adaptation was (146.21±16.74), andthe mean score of the mindfulness level was (50.97±10.37).2. After the intervention, the scores of psychosocial adaptation of the patients fromthe intervention group or the control group were (169.27±15.73) or(154.29±15.66).They were more than those before the intervention (146.41±14.17) or(146.03±19.11)(P<0.05). There was statistically significant difference between twogroups (P<0.05).3.After the intervention, the scores of the mindfulness of the patients from theintervention group was (63.27±11.55), more than the control group (53.63±9.69),there were statistically significant difference(P<0.05). In the intervention group, therewere statistical difference for their scores(50.67±9.45,63.27±11.55) of the patientsbefore or after the intervention (P<0.05).4. After the intervention, the scores of the adverse reaction from the interventiongroup or the control group were (32.19±7.70) or (36.97±10.03). They were less thanthose before the intervention (38.81±10.62) or (39.82±11.36)(P<0.05). There wasstatistically significant difference between two groups (P<0.05).Conclusion1. The psychosocial adaptation and mindfulness of the patients with breast cancerduring the period of chemotherapy was in the moderate level.2. The mindfulness intervention model could improve the psychosocial adaptation ofthe patients with breast cancer during the period of chemotherapy.3. The mindfulness intervention model might promote the mindfulness of the patientswith breast cancer during the period of chemotherapy.4. The mindfulness intervention model could reduce the adverse reaction of thepatients with breast cancer during the period of chemotherapy. |
