Objective: This article by continuous monitoring the changes of platelet to explorethe value of the platelet monitoring in the assessment of prognosis of critically ill children. Methods: In PICU,102critically ill children whose PCIS were less than or equal to80,were enrolled in this retrospective study and divided into two groups,survivorgroup(n=34) and non-survivor(n=68) group according to the prognosis of these102children.Platelet count, platelet monitoring indicators and PCIS evaluation were performedimmediately after the hospitalization and3,5days later. Results: PCIS evaluation wasmuch lower, but similar in the two groups immediately after the hospitalization. However, itincreased markedly in the non-survior group, and decreased dramatically in the survivorgroup5days after therapy. There was a significant difference between the twogroups(P<0.05). Platelet was slightly lower in both groups immediately afterhospitalization. After5days’ therapy,it dropped in the non-survior group, there wassignificant difference when compared with the survivor group(P<0.05). Conclusion: Theplatelet decreased accurate sensitive reaction condition and prognosis of critically illchildren, platelet checks fast and simple, has greater practical value in clinical practice. The value of mean platelet volume in the prognosis of critically ill children may be moresensitive, more accurate indicator than the platelet count.
