Objective1To investigate the prevalence of aged OSAS in community in Tianjin.2To explore the effects of behavioral intervention on elder patients with OSAS.MethodsThere are two parts in this study. Part one, a total of730elder people were recruited from Tianjin community and completed questionnaire, to investigate the prevalence of aged OSAS. In the part two,60suspected OSAS patients were randomly assigned into intervention group (n=30) and control group (n=30).The suspected patients in control group were provided with health pamphlet about OSAS, while the intervention group received individualized,6-month behavioral intervention. The risk of illness、 quality of life、 daytime somnolence、 sleep quality、 weight and BMI were measured at1month、3months and6months after behavioral intervention.Results1The prevalence of aged OSAS in Tianjin communityIn total of730investigated participants,21.1%of them had high risk of OSAS.494participants were more than65years old, and18.2%of them were at risk of OSAS. The detection rate of OSAS in participants with hypertension was significantly higher than that of common population (x2=18.464, P=0.000). The participants with obesity(BMI≥25) were more likely to suffer from OSAS (x2=37.008, P=0.000). The higher detection rate of OSAS was in smokers (x2=124.974, P=0.000)、drinkers(x2=105.409, P=0.000). The participants who smoke (Trend x2=115.797, P=0.000) or drink (Trend x2=94.478, P=0.000) more have higher risk of OSAS. There were no significant difference between the detection rate of OSAS and tea or coffee drinkers (P>0.05)2The effects of interventionCompared with control group, the participants in the intervention group demonstrated improved scores of quality of life. And the risk illness、scores of daytime somnolence、scores of sleep quality、 BMI and weight in the intervention group were lower than those of the control group (P<0.05)Except for height and neck circumference, there were significant difference in other outcome measures between baseline、 the1st month、3rdmonth and6thmonth. The scores of risk illness、 scores of daytime somnolence、scores of sleep quality、 weight and BMI in the intervention group decreased over time at follow-ups, while the score of quality of life increased(P<0.01);83.3%of participants in intervention group showed lower scores of risk.Conclusions1The detection rate of aged OS AS in Tianjin community were higher.2The behavioral intervention significantly improved all the indexes of aged OSAS, which is a feasible, easy intervention matched for elder population. Moreover, the intervention should be applied into other communities to verify its effects.
