Buffalograss [Buchloe dactyloides (Nutt.) Engelm] is a kind of perennial herbaceous plants, which is a species of Chloris Sw. subfamily and gramineae. B. dactyloides is an idealwater-saving warm season turfgrass with low maintenance requirements because of its beautifulcolor leaf, fine texture, strong drought resistance, trampling resistance, heat resistance, anddisease resistant ability. It is necessary to evaluate its turf quality in the process of turf grassdomesticated. The turf quality of buffalograss is not only influenced by its individual characters, but also by the origin growth environment and the geographical climate condition. The factorsinfluenced the performances of buffalograss comes from different levels. Here, HLM(Hierarchical Linear Model), which is a method of data analysis to study the problems that thedata has nested relations, sampling from different levels and units, was used to analyze thefactors from individual phenotypic traits and its original environments. Buffalograss germplasmresources were collected from North American Prairie, based on the individual phenotypic traitsobserved, and the turf qualities evaluated, the impact factor has carried on the comprehensiveanalysis using the hierarchical linear model. The main results are shown as follows.(1) According to the result of grey correlation analysis method, the turf quality ofbuffalograss can be divided into4class levels depending on the grey correlation degree ofbuffalograss germplasm resources.(2) The buffalograss phenotypic traits and turf quality has obvious correlations, the leaflength (LL) and the turf quality banks (TQB) were very significant negative correlation.(3) The origin geographical climate characteristics of buffalograss has a certain influence onthe turf quality banks (TQB), the latitude, habitat are significantly correlated with the turf quality, the average temperature of the dry season, the coldest season of the average temperature, waterenvironment are negative significant correlation with the turf quality, and the correlation issignificant.(4) The turf quality banks of buffalograss is not only influenced by its phenotypic traitsincludes leaf length (LL), the number of single clump of points (NPSB) and the influence of thenumber of single clump of branch (NBSB), also affected by its geographical climate conditionsof origin country in a certain extent. In this study, the average temperature of the wettestseason(MTWeQ), the average temperature of coldest season rainy season (MTCQ), annualrainfall (AP), dry season rainfall (PDQ), the hottest season precipitation (PWaQ), the coldestseason precipitation (PCQ), collecting zone habitat (EVI) and water environment(W) have a significant impact in the leaf length (LL) regression of turf quality banks, soil fertility (S) hassignificantly positive influence in the internode length (IL) regression of turf quality banks, theaverage temperature of the coldest month(MTCM), dry season rainfall (PDQ), growthenvironment (EVI) have significant influence in the regression in internode diameter (ID) oflawn value, the longitude (LON), dry season rainfall (PDQ) has a significant effect on the turfquality banks regression of single bundle branch number (NBSB).In conclusion, geographical climate factors including temperature, precipitation andlongitude directly affect the individual phenotype of buffalograss, which is also the mostimportant determinant factors that influenced the turf quality of buffalograss. The result providesa new method for the further research of turf quality evaluation on turfgrass, and the importantreference for the introduction and directional breeding on the other plants.
