Arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) is a symbiont between plants and arbuscularmycorrhizal fungi, At least80%of land flowering plant species can form AM withGlomeromycota fungi. AM can improve efficiently its host resistance to pathogensand various abiotic stresses. In some regions, the heavy metal-induced contaminationhas been a severe environmental problem, wherein the cadmium (Cd) pollution is atypical case. Jasmonic acid (JA) is a kind of phenolic compounds present in plants.Recently, as a signal molecule, JA has been demonstrated to play an important role inthe interaction between AM fungi and post plants. Currently, the interaction betweenplants (crops) and AM fungi is one of the most interesting topics in theinterdisciplinary research amongst plant science, ecology, microbiology, and soilsicences. The aim of this study is to dissect possible roles of JA in the formation of AMbetween tomato and Glomus mosseae, and assess the effectiveness of AM inalleviating Cd toxicity to the host plants. The tomato mutant spr2is JA deficient dueto a mutation in the gene encoding a key enzyme involving in the biosynthesis of JA.The results showed that:1The sensitivity to Glomus mosseae infection was much lower in the spr2mutantthan that in wild-type plants.2Cd stress caused a greater damage to spr2plants than to wt plants both withinoculation with G. mosseae, as indicated by decreases in dry weight, water content, starch content, and increases in lipid peroxidation, H2O2levels, soluble sugar contentand proline levels.Based on these data, it was proposed that JA played a positive regulation in theformation of AM between tamato and Glomus mosseae, and the colonization levels ofAM were responsible for the host tolerance to Cd stress.
