Generally, the precipitation is the standard which divides areas into arid and semiarid.The area with an annual rainfall less than250mm is divided into arid region while the areawith a250-500mm annual rainfall is divided into semi-arid area. Due to the two regionssituated the inland and be away from the ocean, the climate conditions is so poor that makesthe local urban residents are always threatened by drought, sand and other natural disasters.The adverse environment results of the low rate of plant survival which causes the difficultyof plant furnishing. Therefore, the plant survival rate of semi-arid regions becomes an urgentproblem which should be solved. At the same time it is significant to explore the suitableplant configuration principles and patterns for semi-arid area residential.Under the influence of environment characters to plant configuration, This researchinvestigated the plant configuration features and the main mode of three different residentialdistricts in Yinchuan Municipality which is a typical arid and semi-arid city with the analysisof basis content of plant configuration(including the definition of related concepts, residentialgreen space type and characteristic analysis, regional configuration points).Results show that: the design characteristics of the urban garden is given priority tohard landscape, plant landscape is complementary; Jianfa city garden design is characterizedby half the proportion of the waterscape and the plant disposition; Minsheng city gardendesign is priority to with hard landscape. In the overall performance for the lack of wholeplant configuration, while some have reached plants green quantity standard, but theconfiguration content remains thin and plant configuration form is too rigid tradition,configuration material is not suitable for the local environment, lead to poor growth, affect theoverall effect of plant landscape. Final analysis arid and semiarid area of residential plantconfiguration problems are as follows: ignore the regional spirit in part of the residential plantconfiguration and ecological consciousness is weak; Plants configuration and other designelements put the cart before the horse, has neglected the location of the plant configuration;Green space type is simple, lack of greening system integrity; Plant species of Residentialarea is less, survival rate is low, configuration form is monotonous, identical and not harmonious; Plant hue is not harmonious, the seasonal landscape is not obvious; Plantlandscape lacking characteristics, culture connotation is not abundant.Put forward suitable plant configuration countermeasures for arid and semiarid areas ofresidential as follows: choose right resistance of plants, autumn and winter stems formbeautiful plants, right amount choose color plants, select strong identification plants, activedevelopment of wild plant resources in five aspects to do a good job of basic plantconfiguration; Put forward seven plant configuration mode applicable to habitable zone of differentsite conditions respectively; Active development and utilization of native tree species and localwild plant resources to enhance the plant landscape connotation, and ultimately achievepurpose to improve the environment of arid and semiarid regions.
