The paper analysised the change of timber forest by stock volume, age group structure, plantation percentage and available resources based on the data of forest resources planning and design inventory of Huangmian forest farm in1997,2003and2009. Combined with the actual situation of the forest farm to build a standard index system for researching the quality and rationality of timber forest resources. Discussed the optimization of timber forest and the method to achieve the sustainable management. The main results were as follows:1.Quality of timber forest:By statistical analysis and comparison, grade of timber forest was70.9which full grade was100.grade rate was70.9%,between60%-80%.So quality of timber forest was upper lever. There was a obvious rise compared to the grade of previous period which was56.1in1997and was60.2in2003.2. Rationality of timber forest structure:Grade of timber forest structure in2009was19.5which full grade was30.grade rate was65%which was a reasonable level. It showed that the problem in timber forest structure still existed after the adjustment.3. The main quality problem of timber forest was its low yield per unit area. The per unit area yield of Eucalyptus spp was only91.5m3/hm2. The area proportion of tree species was irrational. Area proportion of E. spp in timber forest was56.9%. The area proportion of tree ages was unequal. Area proportion of immature forest was larger which is28.5%in timber forest.4.In accordance with the quality problem of timber forest resources, management measures such as strengthening management, soil testing and formulated fertilization, increasing protection strength were put forward.5. In accordance with the irrational proportion of tree species and age distribution, the target of tree species structural readjustment and prioritization scheme of tree species and age distribution structural readjustment was put forward.
