Rehmannia glutinosa Libosch. f hueichingensis (Chan et Sehih) Hsiao is a perennial herb belonging to the family Scrophulariaceae, one of the Chinese famous "Four Huaiqing Chinese medicines", widely distributed in Wenxian and Wuzhi of Henan, etc. For a long time the phenomenon of mixed varieties decline of production and quality of rehmannia is serious, which has become an important problem to be solved urgently in production. In this paper, we have studied the virus-free seedling of "85-5", space breeding of resistant strains "Disease-resistant","85-5","Number3of Beijing","Qinhuai" and "9302" in morphological traits, physiological and biochemical characteristics, yield and quality, which can provide theoretical basis for selection and promotion of improved variety in production, the results are as follows:1. The morphology comparison Comparision with the other varieties, except its crown diameter is less than the "disease" in August, plant height, leaf number and function of plant leaf area in various periods of the former of virus-free seedling of "85-5" are the biggest.2. The physiology comparison With the advancement of growing period:(1) NR activity of different varieties showed a downward trend after the first rise, and reached maximum value in August. Except virus-free seedlings of "85-5" and "85-5", the NR activity in July is lower than in September, while the NR activity of other four varieties, is higher in July than in September.(2) the chlorophyll a content of different varieties showed a trend of rise. Chlorophyll b content and total chlorophyll (a+b) and chlorophyll a/b value of different varieties are different, and the content of different varieties at the same time have no obvious difference.(3) the trend of the soluble protein content of different varieties is different.(4) The POD activity of virus-free seedlings of "85-5" and "85-5"all reduce gradually, and "Number3of Beijing","Disease-resistant","Qinhuai" and "9302" increase firstly and then decrease; The SOD activity of all varieties increase firstly and then decrease, except that virus-free seedlings of "85-5" demonstrate a gradually upward trend.(5) The contents of soluble sugar increase gradually in the leaves of all varieties, and the contents of Virus-free seedlings of "85-5"is the highest in September.(6) All varieties decrease firstly and then increase, except that SS cleaving activities of Virus-free seedlings of "85-5" induce gradually; the SS cleaving activities of all varieties are the highest in July, and the SS synthesizing activities decrease firstly and then increase. The period of the highest activities varies. The SPS activity of all varieties decrease firstly and increase with the growing season changing, and the differences variety with different varieties.3. The yield and quality (1)Among all varieties, virus-free seedlings of "85-5" are the highest in the yield, fresh weight per plant, and the number of root tubers per plant of,"Disease-resistant" are second,"Number3of Beijing" are third.(2) Among all varieties, the catalpol content of "Number3of Beijing" is highest, virus-free seedlings of "85-5" is second,"Disease-resistant" is third; the verbascoside content of "disease-resistant" is highest,"Number3of Beijing" is second, the following is "9302" and virus-free seedlings of "85-5".
