When firing, projectile is pushed by gun powder gases with high temperature and high pressure, and interacts with gun barrel. The projectile engraving has great effects on interior ballistics.It is difficult to measure exactly, which follows that, we usually skip this process. The paper researches the problem of projectile engraving effectively.The barrel of gun is the key part of guns and automatic weapons, the damage of gun barrel can impact the gun barrel’s life importantly, lead to the drop of interior ballistics and precision, restrict the effectiveness of weapons. The paper analysis the rules of projectile engraving on the condition of barrel damage.The current situation of domestic and foreign studies on projectile engraving is analyzed. By the comparative study on projectile engraving and band engraving, the theory and the solution approach of projectile engraving process is researched.Finite Element numerical simulation and the software ANSYS/LS-DYNA is explained. The models of5.8mm projectile and gun barrel are established. The projectile engraving process is simulated and analyzed by ANSYS/LS-DYNA.The details on deformation of projectile and material flow were discussed in later sections. After the models of5.8mm projectile and damage gun barrel were established, the influence of different bore structures on projectile engraving was investigatedThe research results of the above on the projectile engraving can provide technical support for the design and use of projectile and gun barrel, which have important guiding significance and application value. The research results also offer the necessary base for further research of projectile motion in bore,provide useful reference for the study on firing accuracy.
