With the vigorous development of nuclear power plants and the application oflarge commercial aircrafts, the issue that large commercial aircrafts impact the nuclearpower plant has aroused people’s attention. At present the research in the field isrelatively less in China. Through theoretical and numerical methods, this paper carriedout the research on large commercial aircraft impacting nuclear power plant, providinga reference for ths safety issue and the actual design of the nuclear engineering.The main contents and results are as follows:1. Indicating the background and significance of the thesis, summarized results ofthe research from three aspects, namely experiments, theories and numerical simulations,also gathered the information about similar problem, such as the plane hit the building,piers hit by boat and bridges hit by a car.2. On the finite element theory, the characteristics, calculation process and basicprinciples of ANSYS/LS-DYNA were indicated. Detail explanations of calculationprocesses and the contact algorithm were given.3. The impact testing of thin-walled steel beams was used to verify performance ofPlatic_Kinematic model. Summarized the dynamic analysis of concrete model and itsparameters, Finite element models of reinforced concrete slabs impacted by the1/7.5engine at different speeds were established. Comparing results of those simulations withtests, impact finite element models and nonlinear material constitutives with parameterswere calibrated.4. In order to analyse the mesh size effect of a large commercial aircraft impactingnuclear power plant, Characteristics and mesh size effects of the rigid body were studiedfirstly.The mesh size effect of the projectile was analyzed by comparing model of thethin-walled cylinder impacting rigid wall with the aircraft impacting the rigid wall.Thesimilar results were concluded.The principle of the mesh size of the impacting aircraftwas proposed, als a simplified method to research the mesh size of the impactingaircraft was given.5. Nonlinear finite element models of the aircraft and the nuclear power plantshield were established. Considering non-linear, large deformation, dynamic contact and other factors, the simulation that a large commercial aircraft impacts the nuclear powerplant was completed.the impacting load-time curve and deformation characteristics ofthe nuclear power plant are discussed. The nuclear power plant was assumedrespectively to be linear elastic and rigid constitutive model, the law of impact load withdifferent structural stiffness was given. The applicability of the Riera method wasdiscussed. The simplified form of impact load and its distribution were proposed.Finally, impacting results under different speeds of the aircraft were analysed.
