At present with the rapid economic development, the electrical energy demandis sharply growing in China. It is a recent practical way to develop nuclear powervigorously. But, there is potential hazard of nuclear accident and radioactive pollutionat the same time that the nuclear technology provides people the benefits, so thenuclear safety has become the key whether the nuclear technology can sustainabledevelopment. Therefore, it is vital significant that a novel, efficient and reliable doserate continuous monitoring instrument has been developed for providing quantitativenuclear radiation data to prevent nuclear accidents effectively.Throughout the research status, the mostly domestic radiation monitor whetherfixed or portable apparatus the digitized level is lower, and their comparison voltageand the input high voltage of front-end nuclear electronics section have to be adjustedby the potentiometer. The instrument connection way is a host to mount a probe mode,and the measurement range is also narrower. Foreign product digital level is higher,measurement range is wider (measurement range from environment level toprotection level), and multiple probes correspond to a host. The Foreign products’price is very expensive, therefore, it is imperative that a nuclear radiation monitorwith high digital level and wide measurement range has been developed and localizedto shorten the gap on the technical level of similar foreign products.After the development process analysis of domestic and foreign nuclear radiationinstrument, and armed at the technical problems of domestic nuclear radiationinstrument on the lower digitized level, smaller measuring range, poorer versatilityand single structure, a digital technology-based solution has been propose to developa portable wide range X-dose rate continuous monitoring meter with a hostcontroller to multiple probe. The main research work mostly includes: 1) Through theoretical knowledge work as the guiding, selected to meet theperformance requirement of detector.2) The hardware design completed by the digital probe of MSP430F169microcontroller as the core.3) The hardware design completed by the host of MSP430F449microcontroller as the core.4) Completed software design of the probe and the host.5) Completed the whole instrument performance testing.Finally, through the performance testing and experimental validation, thedeveloped measuring instrument has achieved the desired technical performancerequirements. It has many advantages of higher digitization level, wider range, lowerpower consumption, and friendly human-computer interaction, and so on. It is able tomeet the digitized set for variety of measurement parameters and the dose ratemonitoring needs of the wide range from environmental to protection level.
