Municipal domestic sludge is a kind of by-product from urban sewage treatment, it has some unique nature, such as high moisture content, high organic substances content, containing massive bacteria and other toxic substances. Municipal domestic sludge has a complicated nature. Moreover, it is unstable and easily corrupted with the emission of stench. If piled up directly, it will be the survival location of pathogenic microorganisms and other harmful bacteria, and caused secondary environmental pollution. Therefore, how to deal with municipal domestic sludge has become one of the urgent problems which have great influences on the urban development.To study this issue, we adopt solidifying/stabilizing method to deal with sludge. Based on the skeleton constructeion method for solidification treatment of sludge, we brought forward that waterworks sludge and silt as the skeleton to solidification sludge. The basic geotechnical properties, environmental effects and the mechanical development of strength of sludge are assessed too. The main contents of the study are shown as follows:(1) Waterworks sludge and silt as the skeleton of solidification sludge. Some assessments of geotechnical engineering properties are conducted. The results show that waterworks sludge and silt as the skeleton of solidification sludge can improve the cement solidifying effects of municipal domestic sludge, which proves that the method is technically and economically feasible.(2) Leaching of heavy metal experiments are conducted to assess the heavy metals stability in the solidified sludge. Results show that Cu, Pb, Zn and Cr have good stabilities and their contents in sludge meet environmental standards.(3)In order to explore the mechanical development of strength of solidification sludge, x ray diffraction and scanning electron micro mirror experiment are conducted. The results show that the waterworks sludge and silt can be as the skeleton of solidified sludge to improve the effect of solidification.
