Natural reserve is not only the important base for managing and protecting naturalresources and carrying on scientific research, but also a good place to popularize natureprotection knowledge and appreciate the original ecological natural landscape. The YellowRiver delta natural reserve is an important wetland reserve of China. There are a largenumber of new-born wetlands and endangered birds in the area and it has the uniquewetland landscape and rich tourism resources. Establishing natural reserve virtualelectronic sand table and realizing the three-dimensional visualization of reserve landscapehave significant research meaning and application value to improve the natural reserve’sdigital management level, promote public awareness of reserve and ecological tourism.Taking the Yellow River delta natural reserve as an example, with the integration ofmulti source of natural reserve such as basic geographic data, remote sensing image data,digital elevation model data, sophiscated feature model data, field survey data andmultimedia data, the natural reserve virtual sand box is constructed based on thetechnology of multi source data fusion modeling and three-dimensional GIS. It realized thevisualization of main scenic spots and provided a three-dimensional visualization platformfor information management and scientific research.The main content of the research and achievements in the thesis are as follows:1. Collect and organize the multi source heterogeneous data of the Yellow River deltanatural reserve. Complete the standardization of data coding, coordinate system andstorage model based on the unitive coding system, coordinate frame and storage method.Design the data’s multiscale scheduling strategy according to the important degree andvisualization level of geographic features. 2. According to the need of multiscale display, construct different resolution’s modelsof terrain, basic features and sophiscated key scene models using multi source data fusionmodeling technology. Realize single plant’s modeling and rapid rendering in large area andestablish the model database.3. Design and develop the Yellow River delta natural reserve three-dimensionalvisualization system using ArcGIS Engine9.2as the developing platform and VisualStudio2005as integrated environment. The main functions include virtual flight roaming,information identify, three-dimensional mark, bookmarks management and the dynamicsimulation of the wetland’s distribution change.The paper studied the natural reserve’s three-dimensional visualization method basedon the multi source data fusion modeling. The multiscale models database and the keyscenic spots’ sophiscated models were established. The reserve three-dimensionalvisualization system provides an effective visualization platform for virtual display, digitalmanagement, scientific research, advertising and promotion.
