Land is a gift from the earth for survival of human beings, and we can not livewithout it. In the last several decades, land use/land cover (LUCC) is becomingresearch hotspots around the world, and with further researching, some scholars beginto put emphasis on land use changes along area of the traffic route. the full opening ofthe Qinghai-Tibet railroad comprehensively promote socio-economic development ofthe two provinces of Qinghai and Tibet, but the linear cutting action of theQinghai-Tibet railway exacerbated the deterioration of the ecological environment. Therefore, in order to ensure the harmony of the qinghai-tibet railway andenvironmental protection and economic development, it is important to do someresearch on land use/cover change along the qinghai-tibet railroad. In this paper, we take one segment of Qinghai-Tibet Railroad,Golmud-Nanshankou, as the research area. The temporal and spatial evolution patterno the research area was studied, and the following results were got,1. two time series Landsat TM/ETM+images (2000and2011respectively)were classified using the ENVI software, and6land use types including cultivatedland, forestland, grassland, water area, construction land, unutilized land were got.2. According to the land use types of the studied area in2000and2011, it wasfound that the area of grassland and water is reduced, while the farmland, woodland, construction land, unused land area is increased.3. The speed of land use changeļ¼Œthe range of land use change, transfer directionand the characteristic value of the landscape pattern were qualitatively andquantitatively analyzed, according to the indicators, including the speed of land usechange, the range of land use change, and transfer matrix of land use. It was found theecological environment of the area is becoming worse.4. The railroad line buffer of the studied area and the point buffer zone of theGolmud City were established. By analysizing the land use dynamic degree of thedifferent distances, it was found that railroad has affect he land use and cover changeof the study area. 5. the natural and humanistic sociadriving forces were analysized from thequalitative and quantitive view respectively. It was found that the main driving forcesare mainly the urbanization, population growth and economic development.
