The study of Servant Leadership has gradually become one of the front subjects in the field of current leadership research. But it is not creature of the modern, it could be traced back to both Christianity of the west and some of ancient philosophers’ of China. The concept of Servant leader was put forward in the book The Servant as Leader by Robert K. Greenleaf in the1970s.For the first time, servant and leader which are contradictory were joined together, as lead to an outstanding influence. According to the theory, the primary responsibility of a leader of an organization is to concern about his followers. The roles of servant are mainly indicated on two aspects:on the one hand, the leaders who must serve his subordinates; on the other hand, the leaders who strive to offer the best service aim to accomplish goals and missions of the group. The servant leaders can experience interior abundance and get more achievements from service. Comparing with the study of the servant leadership of the western countries, our country seems to be poor, so many even do not know what servant leader is, and they distort the meanings of service. Thus, grasping the essence of servant leadership is becoming more and more important; meanwhile the feasibility of the theory is also increasing in the future.Based on the collection and analysis of the existing literature, this thesis including five chapters discusses systematically the significance of the study of Servant Leadership, and analyzes the contents of the theory, then reviews the production and development of Servant Leadership, and evaluates preliminarily the advantages and disadvantages of the servant leader, and by the way prospects some expectations for the development of Servant Leadership, and the last part deals with what Chine’s primary and secondary school can learn from servant leadership. It is necessary to define the relevant conceptions of Servant Leadership, to elaborate its latest development practically and to distinguish the power of Servant leadership and traditional Leadership. In fact, Servant Leadership shares some common grounds with Transformational leadership and Authentic leadership. Of course, a theory has its internal shortcomings, so does servant Leadership. The principal is the executor of the development of education of the school, practicing the idea of Servant Leadership is conductive to enhance service consciousness and to form new views of "service-oriented and teachers and students-oriented.Trough the review of the development course of the Servant leadership, I think it opens a new chapter in modern leadership though its inherent limitations. The society will be freer and more equal, and the lead of servant complies with a thought of democracy, it pays more attention on the need of human. It poses new demands and challenges, and it requires the leaders should internalize the heart of the service and associate with his followers to build a harmonious and love organization by servant attitude and leadership skills and serve others.As a style of leadership, the Servant leadership has an unstoppable trend in the future.
