With the development of population and social economy, the process of Chineseurbanization has been accelerating. Urban area is continuous expansive, which led landscapepattern to changing. The city is also facing a serries of questions about ecologicalenvirronmental pollution, ecological fragility and the land use tension. So, this paper appliesthe urban landscape ecology principles and quantitative analysis methods of the lanscapepattern and dynamic changes. The results could provide a theoretical reference for thesustainable development of Yueyang City.Based on remote sensing (RS) and geographic information system (GIS) technology,taking the core area of Yueyang City as the study object and1993TM、2001ETM+and2009TM remote sensing images as the data source, this paper analyzed the landscape pattern of thecore of Yueyang City with the quantitative analysis method, such as landscape index, land usedynamic change, and so on. The results could provide the certain theoretical reference for thefuture of.the land planning, ecological improvement and environmental managemen. Withreference of the national land use classification standard and the actual situation and thecurrent land use map, the landscape of the region was divided to five types. The study showsthat from1993to2009:1. In the rapid development stage of economy and the process of urbanization in the corearea of Yueyang City, the landscpe pattern varied significantly, landscape fragmentationdegree decreaseed, the average plaques area of landscape increased, and the distribution wasrelatively concentrated.2. The cultivated land and water was the mian landscape types. In the three periods, theproportion of the two land types was69.99%,67.89%and66.18%respectively. At the sametime, the construction area rose rapidly from the11160.45hectares to6810.83hectares, withthe proportion of50.629%up. Farmland, woodland and land for constructin of three types ofland between the relatively frequent change, including changes in the proportion ofconstruction land area of52.66%. The results reflected that the urbanization phenomenon inthe core area of Yueyang City was apparent in this period.3. The value and importance of waters, constrution land and woodland are decreased, thespace frequency increases, the degree of importance is strengthening, the frequency andimportance of the arable land space in the lower.Reflect the disribution of building land andwaters of the study area is xtensive, and indrectly the rapid economic development of the Yueyang City.4. The landscape type of the core region of Yueyang city has occurred significantchanges, all of them have obvious transformed for each other, between cultivated land, frorestand construction land change is more intense, changes in amplitude of the constrution land,the occurrenc earea conversion ratio reached52.66%. Reflect the urban construction anddevelopment of the core region of Yueyang city soon the landscape type of interaction is moreintense.5. The landscape heterogeneity of this area changed obviously. The plaques numberdropped greatly, and plaques density, fractal dimension and shape index has fallen, whichreflects the complexity of the whole landscape was reduced. Diversity index, evenness index,gathered degrees and separation index had a modest increase, which shows that the landscapediversity gradually improved, each landscape type branch concentrated more and more. At thesame time, the decrease of cultivated landand increase of forest land reflected the ecologicalenvironment has improved, but the contradiction between human and land still exist.Therefore, ecological problems still need to the attention.6. In the point of view of the Kappa index and agreement, the standard Kappa coefficient,the No Kappa coeffcient, the location Kappa index and the position Kappacoeffcients haveemerged as a decreasing trend, in the cnsistency analysis, the spatial consistency decreasesfrom0.64.7to0.6364. So we can see that, the landscape types remain the same ability is notstrong, relatively easy to direct the transfrmation of the landscape type.
