Yangtze Automobile Industry Cluster Competitiveness Research

Since the concept of "industrial cluster" first introduced in Michael Potter’s book"The Competitive Advantage of Nations", people are becoming familiar with it. As animportant industrial space form of economic organization, Industrial clusters have animportant role in regional economic development. With the development of economicglobalization, Industrial clusters have become an effective way to build up and enhancetheir competitive advantage in many parts of the world. With the increasingly fiercecompetition of the global automobile industry, automobile industry cluster tendency isalso becoming increasingly clear, people also begin in-depth study of the competitivenessof automobile industrial clusters. The level of competitiveness of the automobile industrylargely reflects the overall competitiveness of a country’s overall economic strength andthe level of modernization. With the development of the automobile industry,competition in the global automobile industry is no longer just the performance ofindividual car products, but more competition of comprehensive strength in theautomobile industry cluster. In recent years, China’s automobile industry madesignificant progress, the trend of the automobile industry cluster is further demonstrated.Yangtze River Delta region, by virtue of a better vehicle and parts manufacturing base,becomes a typical representative of China’s automobile industry cluster. The study onindustry cluster competitiveness can largely reflect the situation of China’s automobileindustry cluster development, enhance the Yangtze River Delta and even the country’sautomobile industry competitiveness, and have important theoretical and practical value.This paper first outlines the theory of the competitiveness of industrial clusters, thebasic theory of the competitiveness of industrial clusters, the source, the connotation ofnature and its evaluation are reviewed, which provide a theoretical support for the studyof the competitiveness of industrial clusters; Secondly, we have a qualitative analysis ofthe Yangtze River Delta automobile industry cluster competitiveness,the status of theYangtze River Delta automobile industrial clusters and the cluster characteristics areintroduced, and we use SWOT method to analyze the automobile industrial clusters inthe Yangtze River Delta， strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threat aresummarized; Then through Porter’s diamond model, from the six factors of production,demand conditions, the performance of related industries and support industries,corporate strategy, structure, and competitors, government and opportunities, we do acompetitiveness factor analysis of industrial clusters in Yangtze River Delta. After that,we build a comprehensive competitive evaluation system and do a quantitative analysisfor the automobile industry cluster competitiveness of the six major domestic automobileindustry clusters, including the Yangtze River Delta; Finally, based on the qualitative andquantitative analysis of automobile industry cluster in the Yangtze River Delta, thecountermeasures and suggestions have been proposed to enhance the competitiveness ofthe automobile industry cluster of the Yangtze River Delta.
