With the rapid development of three-dimensional geographical information system, campus image map of traditional two-dimensional surface can no longer satisfy the urgent need of multiple functions in the campus, such as enrollment advertising, campus navigation, Information management. Now the key point of3D GIS construction in universities is to achieve the most advanced campus3D GIS by making use of the latest3D modeling and visual technology, to take on the campus’scenery and information in a more vivid and direct way. This paper summarized the research situation of the campus geographic information system and basic knowledge of the geography information system, analyses the key technology of the geographic information system research; Elaborated the spatial data types in the three-dimensional geographic information system, spatial data access and data model of spatial data and its corresponding data structure,3D geographic information system for campus laid a theoretical foundation is established. In this paper, on the basis of3DS MAX, to model the campus buildings and scenic spot. Detailed discusses the rules irregular terrain modeling, feature modeling, flowers, vegetation modeling, the modeling process of other auxiliary equipment model, successfully established the corresponding model, and also on the texture map. Finally analyzed in detail the theoretical basis of visual, introduced the three dimensional model of light theory, the principle of geometric transformation and projection transformation, the viewport transformation theory, finally based on OpenGL visual tools to implement the campus roaming the three-dimensional visualization of geographic information system.
