In the recent ten years, the development of cellular network is fast, the number of users and the volume of traffic are also increased. For satisfying the users’requirement and making sure the quality of service, all of base stations work all day. It results in the huge waste of energy. For protecting the environment, reducing the pollution and increasing the benefit, designing an energy optimization mechanism is necessary. Through the analysis of the users’behavior, we can find out the characteristic of this network. And then, according to the characteristic, we can build an energy optimization mechanism and use swarm intelligent algorithms to solve energy optimization mathematical model.In the UMTS, we use the software to control the base station. We can use signal information to control the base station. In this dissertation, the author divides it into three parts:(1) Study energy optimization mechanism in UMTS. At first, according to the situation of the current UMTS, the distribution of users, we can research the energy optimization mechanism. If all of base stations are always working, it not only wastes lots of energy, but also makes a negative effect to environment. For saving the energy, when the traffic of base stations is low, the energy optimization mechanism can be triggered, some base stations can be shut down and other base stations can adjust the radius to cover the blank area. This paper is based on the change of base station’s radius to implement and analyze.(2) Propose two covering compensation programs:macro-energy saving merchanism and micro-energy saving mechanism. Accordingly, the energy consumption can be reduced. For the scenario, we propose a specific mechanism to optimize the network. For reaching this purpose, the energy consumption must be reduced. In this part, we can research and analyze the optimization algorithm. In these optimization algorithms, swarm optimization algorithms pay more attention to the people. Swarm optimization algorithms can be used to solve Non-deterministic Polynomial problem. In this research, we will use swarm optimization algorithm to reduce the energy consumption. At first, we study and explore the parameter of energy saving, and then, build the mathematical model of covering compensation.(3) Simulate and complement. Through the analysis of part two, we can build the energy saving mathematical model by using swarm optimization algorithms. According to the mathematical model, we can use MATLAB software to simulate and implement. By analyzing the mathematical model, we can optimize the solution of the model.
