With the development and construction of the city, large buildings, such as shopping malls, airports, exhibition centers, and office buildings, are increasing rapidly; the time which people spend in large indoor buildings is also growing. Indoor map as an emerging area of application is a blank on the navigation market in our country. Therefore, it is a hot issue of how to better use the map to describe the indoor environment, and design a more realistic, practical indoor map system.This thesis describes the concept and implementation methods of designing indoor map construction system, including:alter the traditional outdoor map structure, build indoor map data storage format to adapt to the indoor architectural features; a method of converting various types of data into a uniform data format of map data and corresponding software tools; map output tool, which can batch output map as different style of images and data in accordance with the user’s needs.The thesis begins with introduction of the indoor map construction system’s background and description of the author’s contribution in the project, then a brief introduction of the Geographic Information System (GIS) and its developing technology. Subsequently, I made system requirements analysis for the indoor map construction system; designed map database in accordance with the characteristics of indoor map; described the detailed functional design and realization of two sub-systems:map drawing subsystem and map output subsystem. The thesis elaborates the implementations of5modules in map construction subsystem:building creation; points, roads, polygon generation; escalator and connectivity; annotation and logo; update and check. The thesis also elaborates the implementations of5modules in map output subsystem: output and render setting; output bitmap images; output coordinate data; output data for smart-phone client; output SVG vector images. The last part of the thesis is the testing of the system. It describes the test plan, analyzes and summaries the test result.Indoor map construction system has been put into use, and it is in stable operation. The system, with its own powerful, rich functionality, stable, efficient system architecture, provides convenient tools for service providers to draw, modify and publish map data.
