In recent years, with the rapid development of wireless sensor networks (WSNs), more andmore institutions begin to be committed to the research or commercialization of WSN. As one ofthe typical application of WSN, remote environmental monitoring is becoming the focus of theindustry, along with the growing public concern over environmental issues. This thesis presents a scheme for the WSN nodes used for remote monitoring. The nodes aimat the acquisition of environmental parameters such as temperature, humidity, illuminance andreal-time image, and provide remote monitoring function by SMS and MMS on common mobilephones via GPRS. According to the distinction of functions, there are two types of nodes, namelythe acquisition node and the relay node. Use relay node as an example, this paper presents detaileddesigns of the hardware and software for the node. The relay node integrates MG2455-F48maincontroller, TR-800wireless transmission module, SHT11temperature and humidity sensor,TSL2561illuminance sensor, OV7725image sensor and CX93510image encode, and its softwarekernel is established based on Keil μVision3. By writing each module driver program in thesoftware kernel, the complete node function is achieved. Finally, the module-level and system-level testing records are given respectively. The node isconfirmed to be able to realize remote environmental monitoring, include temperature, humidity, illuminance and real-time image, and the system performances can meet the expected demand.
