The helix TWT is one of the widely used electron devices. The output window isthe most important part of the TWT, which can decide the performance of the TWT. Atthe present, almost all the output windows of broadband helix TWT are coaxialwindows, but the coaxial windows have some disadvantages, such as lower powercapacity, which limit the development of the helix TWT.This paper is about the design of a double-ridged waveguide window system. Anddiscuss the practicability and feasibility of this structure by using both the simulationand the experiment, and then use this structure to the manufacture of the TWT. Largenumbers of computation have been done with the CST microwave Studio to design anew double-ridged waveguide structure. The whole output structure has been optimizedaccording the given TWT, which can also prove the feasibility of the double-ridgedwaveguide structure.Lastly, a TWT which used the new double-ridged waveguide system has beenmanufactured and tested. The result has been compared with the result of another TWTusing the coaxial windows, which indicates the feasibility of the double-ridgedwaveguide system. For the time is limited, the reliability of the double-ridgedwaveguide system by experiment is not been developed. This work should be done inthe future.
