Epon Technology In The Triple-play

With the rapid development of information technology, it has become an inevitable tendency that triple-play, the integrate of computer data network, public telephone network and cable television network. In the mutual penetration and fusion, three businesses have gradually formed a unified network system. The process of triple-play is accelerating, in which the access network is a difficult part. EPON (Ethernet Passive Optical Network), the mainstream of fiber access technology, play an extremely important role.This paper first introduces the meanings and requirements of triple-play by basic statement. After comparing several access technologies, it indicates the importance of fiber access technology, and the advantage of EPON by the technical principles analysis. Then according to the application example of local network project, the paper expounds the achievement of the three businesses in EPON+IPTV program and EPON+EOC program of the triple-play,and illustrates the EPON network design specification. Finally, it describes the development direction of EPON technology and the triple-play.
