With the continuous development of Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) technology and the increasing growth of network size, in order to improve the network scalability and security, the backbone optical network is generally divided to multi-domains. Meanwhile, with the development of multimedia services, such as video conference, video-on-demand, enterprise interconnection, remote teaching and so on, multicast technology has gotten more and more attention. As the multicast stream carries large amounts of information, the network failures may bring huge data loss, so that the study of survivability is very important. In multi-domain network environment, because the whole network topology is based on the aggregation of logical topology, survivability of multi-domain multicast is more challenging. This thesis mainly studies the multicast survivable algorithms in multi-domain optical networks. The first chapter introduces the background and the significance of this study. The second chapter introduces the survivability of multi-domain optical networks and the overview of multicast technology. The third chapter firstly develops two algorithms called MPH-MSDPA (MPH Based Multicast Segment Dedicated Protection Algorithm) and MPH-MSSPA (MPH Based Multicast Segment Shared Protection Algorithm) which are both based on MPH (Minimum Path cost Heuristic) method, and then based on the two algorithms this chapter proposes two kinds of multicast protection algorithms called MM-SDPA (Multi-domain Multicast Segment Dedicated Protection Algorithm) and MM-MPA (Multi-domain Multicast Mixed Protection Algorithm) in multi-domain. Further, MM-SDPA is enhanced to LB-MM-SDPA (Load Balanced MM-SDPA) by using load balance method. To test and evaluate the performances of the proposed algorithms, the fourth chapter simulates and analyzes these algorithms. The simulation results show that, the performance of LB-MM-SDPA is better than MM-SDPA and the overall performance of MM-MPA is the best.
