Clustering algorithm and routing protocol are the key technologies of WSN(Wireless Sensor Networks). How to reduce energy consumption is the key issue for designing clustering algorithm and routing protocol due to the limit of WSN. To solve this problem, based on LEACH protocol, four improved algorithms LEACH_OCH, LEACH_ET, BLNM and BLDF were proposed in this paper.The first algorithm can ensure that the cluster head is the ideal cluster head that has more residual energy and less the overall energy consumption within the cluster. The second one can ensure that the number of cluster head is uniform and the cluster head has more residual energy within the networks so as to reduce energy consumption and extend the network life cycle. The last two BLNM and BLDF routing protocol are respectively designed that monitoring data whether to support inter-cluster data fusion, on the basis of layered network, they use LEACH_ET algorithm to cluster, and the cluster using the optimal next hop for transferring data. Theoretical analysis and simulation illustrated that, compared with LEACH, these four algorithms have improved the performance in both energy consuming and network life period. They are energy efficient WSN clustering algorithm and routing protocol.
