WMAX is a kind of wireless metropolitan area networks based on IEEE802.16e broadband wireless technology, it can provides high-speed data, voice and video services in both fixed and mobile environment, and it has features such as mobility, broadband and IP-based, It has a great development potentiality. Channel estimation is a key technology in the physical layer of WMAX, this paper researches the implementation on channel estimation for WMAX downlink PUSC based on the standard802.16e.This paper introduces the basic principle and implementation on OFDM of WMAX’s key technology, then it analyses the key technology of the IEEE802.16e standard--OFDMA with various technical parameters, frame structure and sub-carrier allocation method. Then it researches3kinds of channel estimation such as block-type pilot arrangement, comb-type pilot arrangement as well as star-type pilot arrangement, and different algorithms of channel estimation such as LS, LMMSE and2-D Wiener filter etd. Contrast and analyzes the advantages and disadvantages between the preamble-based and the pilot-based by simulation, it chooses the pilot-based channel estimation for implementation. And researches the method that implementers channel estimation with hardware based on the Zone PUSC of downlink with hardware description languages (Verilog HDL) on the platform based on Quartus II8. It verifies the correctness of the design by simulation analysis. The implementation fulfills the function requirement and target.
