The Mobile Ad Hoc network (MANET) is a dynamic and self-organized network system with temporary network topology. The network has a lot of distinguish features, such as convenience, flexibility, mobility, self-organization and connecting at any time or any location etc. Because the nodes usually have random movement, route breakdown happens frequently. This situation causes decrease in the route performance, and the tradition routing protocol has no effective mechanism to reduce this disadvantage. As a result of above analysis, it is necessary to design a stability-based multi-path routing protocol in MANET.A stability-based multi-path routing protocol, named AODV-QM, in ad hoc networks is proposed in this paper, this protocol is a reactive routing protocol. The degree of relative movement between neighbor nodes is used to measure the link stability by AODV-QM, the node which receives the packet uses the motion velocity, motion direction of previous node and the motion velocity, motion direction of itself to compute the link stability. Because the network topology is dynamic changing, in the route discovery process, the stability of the route from source node to the middle node is computed by the middle node itself, and then the middle node forwards the RREQ which is passed by the route with the highese stability. After the destination node receives the RREQ, it sends RREP back to the source node. The route is built up by the source node when he receives RREP from destination node. At last, the multi-path is used to balance the loads by the source node. The ratio of different route stability is used for balancing loads on different routes, which can increase the lifetime and the ruin-resistant of route.NS-2simulation software is used in this paper to simulate. And the results of simulation verify that the performance of AODV-QM is superior to AODV in delivery ratio, lifetime and delay.
