With the rapid development of information technology, the Internet has quickly spread around the world, and become essential to people’s life and work. However with the development of network technology and the expansion of the network scale, the kind of network services is continuously increasing. As a result, abnormal behaviors emerge in endlessly, which break the normal operations of the Internet, threaten the safety and normal use of user hosts, and cause a large waste of resources and economic losses. On the other hand, with the popularity of the Internet, the number of devices connected to the network has increased dramatically, and IPv4address resources are nearly running out. In order to meet the future needs for IP address, turning to IPv6standards has become inevitable.In this paper, a network traffic monitoring prototype system for IPv6is designed and implemented. First, IPv6protocol and the existing network traffic monitoring technology are researched and analyzed. On that basis, NetFlow v9is selected as the system’s traffic collection scheme, and a detailed introduction to this technology is made. The common features of abnormal traffic are analyzed, and then an abnormal traffic detection method based on the combintion of threshold and dynamic baseline is proposed, also a multi-angle traffic statistics and analysis scheme is put forward. On this basis, a network traffic monitoring prototype system for IPv6is developed. The system supports user-defined characteristics of abnormal traffic, and employs a method based on the combintion of threshold and dynamic baseline to detect abnormal traffic. With the application of multi-angle traffic statistics and analysis scheme, the system can provides users a detailed analysis of the directions where network traffic flow, and various types of statistical data about the status of network operation, such as traffic distribution, traffic ranking, etc, which help users better monitor and control the use of the network.
