With the rapid development of wireless communications, it appears a variety of wireless networks. In order to accommodate more mobile users and offer traffic services with high quality, it is well accepted that the Next Generation Internet (NGI) should be an open network environment, i.e., heterogeneous wireless networks (HWN). For the limited bandwidth resources, traditional network cannot completely guarantee the quality of service of these new services, thus network needs a new resource allocation technique. In this thesis, under the guidance of the radio resource management theory, the problems of bandwidth allocation in HWN are intensively studied.Two algorithms are proposed for an integrated cellular/WLAN network in this work, Satisfaction-based Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation Algorithm (SDBA) and Evaluation Function-based Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation Algorithm (EFDBA). The main objective of SDBA algorithm is to improve user’s satisfaction, meanwhile the utilization of proportional fair scheduler guarantee fairness. The attractive point of the, EFDBA algorithm is considering the service provider’s revenue, which is uncommon in general algorithms, and the algorithm uses service provider’s receive, user’s satisfaction, bandwidth degrade differences and bandwidth degrade fluctuation as the evaluation factors. Used the AHP algorithm to determine the weights of evaluation factors. By calculating the evaluation function, EFDBA chooses a better performance-ed bandwidth degradation scheme.For validating and evaluating the performance of the proposed algorithms, the proposed algorithms are simulated in an environment of a heterogeneous wireless system network. Compared with Uniform Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation (UDBA) and Fair-based Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation Algorithm (FDBA). SDBA algorithm and EFDBA algorithm not only reduce NCBP and HCDP effectively, but also improve user’s satisfaction and fairness respectively.
