The main objective of this thesis is to design and implement a new Zigbee protocolstack topology tree-based. The protocol stack needs to meet the ZigBee wireless sensornetwork project requirements, and it’s software platform is TinyOS embedded operatingsystem. This paper discusses Zigbee technology and the current wireless sensor networksresearch progress, analyses the Zigbee wireless network architecture, and studies theprotocol criterion developed by the IEEE802.15.4stand and Zigbee alliance whichillustrates the functions of physical layer, MAC layer, network layer and applicationlayer. Some improvements have been made on the criterion based on the actual need.Based on depth study on the TinyOS system, a clear structure and perform specific tasksprotocol stack is designed and implemented according to the hardware resources underthis project.Hierarchical design methodology and implementation process of each module iselaborated in this paper. The protocol contains two different work procedures which arecalled root node and common node.TI’s CC2430chip constitutes the hardware platformand TinyOS operating system constitutes the software platform. Common nodes areresponsible for cyclical environmental data collection and aggregation. Root node isresponsible for the establishment and maintenance of a wireless network. All the datareceived by the root node is processed by the host computer wireless networkmonitoring software. This method of designing a wireless sensor network according tothe project hardware requirement which combines hardware resource and softwareresource has a certain reference value for future research and application of Zigbeewireless sensor networks.
