Wireless sensor network (WSN) is a new kind of multi-hop self-organizingnetwork system that contains information acquisition, processing and transmission. With the development of sensor technology and wireless transmission technology,WSN has widely application aspects in various aspects of social life and productionactivities. The strip-based wireless sensor networks, as a kind of WSN, has beengradually applied in a number of the place of the strip-based topology such as themonitoring of high voltage transmission lines, mine monitoring with its specialstrip-based topology. Its special topology has also brought a series problem such ashot zone that will reduce the network lifetime. Therefore, research of the problemin the strip-based monitoring WSN for deducing the network lifetime is of greatsignificance.Nodes failure happens occasionally due to energy depletion or mechanicalfailure in WSN. Especially for the strip-based monitoring WSN, nodes failure maylead to the interruption of network transmission link, network reliability can not beguaranteed, which will have a greater impact on the performance of network. Inorder to solve the above problems, this paper has done the following work. Firstly,we point out the hierarchical network structure model of the strip-based monitoringWSN with the combination of application environment and structure of thestrip-based monitoring WSN. According to the strip-based topology network madeup by key nodes, we put forward two link recovery mechanisms, regulating nodespower and increasing the alternative nodes, when its nodes don’t work. What’s more,we compare these two methods systematically and draw a better solution. Secondly,we start from the MAC protocol, and then do some research about the MACprotocol which applied to strip-based topology. We find out that DMAC protocol ismore adaptive through the comparison and analysis, so we use this protocol in theestablished strip-based topology model. Finally, when we use DMAC protocol, wealso put forward a robust MAC protocol that can be used in the strip-based WSNfor the sake of network performance fluctuate significantly or even interrupt madeby the failure of nodes. Experiments done by NS2simulation tool show theprotocol effectively improve the fluctuations in network performance, enhancenetwork stability and reliability.
